Orthodontic Treatment Benefits

Orthodontic treatment using braces provides several benefits to patients. Using braces to get straighter teeth helps many patients gain additional self-confidence and satisfaction with the appearance of their smile. While this is certainly an appealing aspect of braces, there are many other benefits that you may not be aware of.

Orthodontic treatment can also help address different types of oral health and general well-being issues, such as correcting overbites and under-bites, prevention of tooth grinding, treating sleep apnea, and even improvements to speech that are a result of severely misaligned teeth.

Orthodontics can also be an effective way to repair damage to the jaw caused by an injury, as well as help to prevent future oral health issues. Patients who experience crowding of teeth or large gaps between teeth can be at an increased risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental problems that can develop over time. Using braces to treat these conditions early results in a better state of dental health and overall well-being.

Braces

There are many styles of braces available, each with their own benefits and advantages. Some braces are designed to achieve results as quickly as possible, others are designed to be subtle.  Here is a brief overview of the different types of braces that you may be able to choose from…

Invisalign Clear Aligners

The Invisalign system of orthodontic treatment utilizes an advanced set of clear plastic aligners that can be worn and removed by the patient at any time, making eating and oral care habits much more comfortable and convenient. Invisalign delivers the same great smile straightening results as traditional braces, but with many additional benefits.

Gold Braces

For some patients, style really matters, and that’s definitely what gold braces bring to the table. Similar in function and form to traditional metal braces, these braces feature a special gold coating to add some extra cosmetic flair for the patient. While many would expect these to be an expensive option, gold braces are very similar in cost to most clear braces.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are another option for patients who desire a less-visible set of braces. These braces are affixed to the inside surfaces of the teeth using a strong dental adhesive, and as such are not visible to others when you smile. While not as common as the other types of braces, lingual braces can be a viable option for certain types of patients.

Traditional Metal Braces

These are the braces you are probably most familiar with. Stainless-steel metal brackets and bands are affixed to your teeth and connected by a set of arch wires and elastic bands that are designed to gradually move your teeth over time. When treatment is completed, the braces are removed, and you will have a straighter set of teeth.

Self-Ligating Braces

A variation of metal braces, self-ligating braces do not use elastics, which means patients require fewer appointments for adjustments. Self-ligating braces use a combination of a specialized clip and the arch wire to provide the pressure needed to encourage teeth to move in to the correct alignment. Visually, they appear very similar to regular metal braces.

Clear (Ceramic) Braces

Ceramic braces are functionally very much like metal braces, but are made from a material that is either clear or blends in with the natural colour of teeth, allowing them to be less noticeable than traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces are ideal for patients who prefer a subtler set of braces, but want the same method of treatment as metal braces.

Invisalign

Georgian Dental® is proud to be one of the earliest adopters of the Invisalign system, and has been using this advanced method of orthodontic treatment with patients for many years. Our Invisalign patients also gain the advantage of an accelerated treatment timeline by leveraging soft-pulse ultrasonic therapy and low-level laser therapy. This combination of advanced treatments and the Invisalign system produces better results in less time, and leaves our patients feeling more than satisfied at the improvements they see in their smiles.

Your Invisalign treatment at Georgian Dental® will start with a complete 3D scan of your teeth and mouth in order to achieve the highest levels of precision. During your checkups, which occur about once every six weeks, our team will closely inspect your progress and discuss any questions or concerns that you have. Our goal is to ensure that you have the best possible experience with our orthodontic treatment, and we will do everything we can to deliver on that promise.

Invisalign braces are a great treatment option for many patients, but they aren’t always the best choice in every case. Your dentist will decide this after a thorough examination, but for most cases of orthodontic treatments, Invisalign provides a fast, effective, and easy method of treating such issues as overbites, underbites, crowding, excessive spacing, and crooked teeth.

Although Invisalign braces are most commonly used for orthodontic treatment in teens and young adults, there is no age limit to their applications. Many mature adults and seniors can also benefit from the comfort and convenience that Invisalign provides.

The Invisalign system works by having the patient wear custom-fitted aligners that are made from a clear composite material throughout the day and night as they go about their usual routines. The aligners are removed by the patient during meals and snacks, as well as during oral care cleaning habits. Once the meal or tooth cleaning is completed, the wearer replaces the aligner in their mouth.

Aligners are replaced regularly to continue moving the teeth in set increments, until the treatment is complete and the teeth are finished moving to the correct position. In general, Invisalign treatments take about 12-18 months to complete.

Because Invisalign uses a clear material to construct the aligners, they are virtually invisible when worn. Most patients even forget that they are wearing them throughout the day. They are also very comfortable, and do not obstruct or irritate the mouth or tongue or disturb the wearer during sleep. Invisalign aligners are convenient and easy to maintain since they can easily be removed during meals and for cleaning.

For many patients, Invisalign presents the ideal set of orthodontic benefits. They are comfortable, virtually invisible, easy to care for, and deliver wonderful results. With Invisalign, you can be confident that you’ll have a great experience during your treatment, and excellent results when it is completed.

There are certain instances where Invisalign can present a challenge for some patients. If there are drastic or severe changes in tooth position needed, it may not be possible to achieve the final result using Invisalign alone. In some cases, patients may need additional procedures to be completed prior to undergoing orthodontic treatment using Invisalign. Your dentist will determine this as part of your initial examination, as well as looking back at your previous dental history.

The cost of Invisalign orthodontic treatment can vary depending on many factors including the amount of movement needed, the duration of the treatment, and other concerns that may be related to your specific state of dental health. In general, Invisalign orthodontic treatment costs begin at around $3,500. These costs can be covered by some dental plans and benefit packages, so be sure to ask your dentist and your benefits provider to obtain clarity on this.

Fast Braces

Fast braces, also known as accelerated braces, are a fantastic orthodontic treatment option for patients who desire a short time frame. Fast braces reduce the typical treatment times for orthodontics by about half when compared to an average treatment using traditional metal braces. Georgian Dental® helped develop a unique approach to offering fast braces, and the results and reviews from our patients certainly speak for themselves. By pairing a specialized set of metal braces with additional oral therapy techniques, patients can achieve a great looking, straight set of teeth in much less time than what would be required with a traditional process.

Like many other types of orthodontic treatments, fast braces are most often used to straighten the teeth of teens and young adults. This is mainly due to the fact that it’s generally easier to move and reposition teeth while the gums and bones in the jaw are still developing. However, this does not mean that fantastic results are only limited to those age groups. Fast braces are still an effective treatment option for many types of patients at all ages. If you’re unsure about whether fast braces may be the best choice for you, we can help.

Fast braces combine multiple different orthodontic treatments in order to achieve faster movement and repositioning of the teeth in the jaw with less discomfort for the patient. The braces themselves are similar in appearance to traditional metal braces, but there are some differences in the design and shape of the brackets that are used. In addition to these special brackets, patients also undergo additional treatment sessions using subsonic and phototherapy techniques to help stimulate the surrounding areas of the jaw and gums to encourage faster results.

As their name suggests, fast braces are able to deliver comparable orthodontic results in less time than traditional braces. In some cases, patients experience a total treatment time that is about half of what would be needed using traditional metal braces. In addition, the incorporation of phototherapy and subsonic treatments help to reduce the discomfort that some patients feel after an adjustment, making the overall experience easier. It’s easy to see why many patients are so satisfied with the results they achieve with fast braces.

As with all other types of orthodontic treatment, your current state of dental health and past oral care history will play a significant role in determining whether fast braces are the best choice for treatment. Once you’ve had a thorough examination by your dentist, they will evaluate all the factors and let you know if fast braces will be a suitable treatment option to meet your goals. Depending on the amount of movement needed, additional procedures may be needed before you can start with fast braces.

The cost of fast braces is quite comparable to many other types of orthodontic treatments, starting at $3500 and ranges upward depending on the required length of treatment to meet the patients’ goals. Many benefits packages and insurance plans offer coverage for orthodontics, although generally not the full amount. The team at Georgian Dental® can help you determine what portion may be covered by your benefits or insurance plan, and let you know exactly what the cost will be for your treatment.

Ceramic Braces

Choosing ceramic braces for your orthodontic treatment is a wise decision if you’re looking for an alternative that provides effective tooth straightening with design and style that is less noticeable. Georgian Dental® will work closely with you to ensure that all your concerns are met, and that the process of your orthodontic treatment is as pleasant as possible. We will take great care to ensure that your braces are as subtle in appearance as possible, and that you are pleased with how they look throughout your treatment.

Before you can get started with ceramic braces, it’s important to determine if they are the best choice to meet your goals and achieve great results from your orthodontic treatment. Based on your past dental history and current state of oral health, your dentist will determine the best way to proceed with ceramic braces. You’ll also need to consider if you want your ceramic braces to be clear, or matched to the same colour as your teeth. Your dentist can help guide you through the different options available to you.

Ceramic braces are functionally almost identical to traditional metal braces. The main differences come in the appearance and materials used in their construction. Patients with ceramic braces will have regular checkup appointments to review their progress and make incremental adjustments to keep the teeth moving towards the final desired position. These adjustments usually include a re-shaping of the arch wire, as well as a new set of tension elastics. Each adjustment is designed to exert gentle pressure on the teeth in order to encourage realignment within the jaw.

The main benefit to ceramic braces is their subtle appearance and ability to blend in with your teeth. This makes ceramic braces very appealing for orthodontic patients who want to achieve a straighter smile but don’t want their appliances to be made of noticeable shiny stainless steel. This helps make some patients more comfortable with their braces throughout their treatment, and be more satisfied with the overall orthodontic process from start to finish.

While ceramic braces offer many advantages to patients who desire a less noticeable orthodontic treatment, there are some things to be aware of. Due to the nature of the ceramic materials used in their construction, the brackets used for this type of braces tend to be slightly larger than those of metal braces. In addition, while the ceramic material used is quite durable, it is more susceptible to damage from accidental impacts than metal braces are. However, these are minor issues that are usually outweighed by the cosmetic benefits.

Ceramic braces range from about $4000 to $8000, depending on the duration of the treatment and any other procedures that may be required. Dental plans and benefit packages often have some coverage for orthodontic work, so be sure to consult your benefit provider to get full details on what portion you will be required to pay. The team at Georgian Dental® can help explain the costs with you and run through all the things to consider.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are a popular option for many patients in need of orthodontic treatment, and are the most common type of braces that you will see. They are simple and effective, and modern advancements in treatment methods and the design of braces have resulted in shorter timeframes and better results than ever before. Georgian Dental® is at the forefront of modern orthodontic treatments, and our patients consistently report positive experiences and the highest levels of satisfaction with their end results. With Georgian Dental®, you can be sure that you’ll receive the best care from our friendly team of professionals.

For the majority of orthodontic patients, metal braces provide a great balance of affordability, fast treatment time, and convenience. Braces are easy to maintain and feature more comfortable bracket designs than the braces of the past. Metal braces are ideal for a wide range of orthodontic treatments, including full-mouth realignments as well as the repositioning of only certain teeth. Patients of all ages have achieved great results from metal braces, and the satisfaction of Georgian Dental® orthodontic patients shines through in many positive reviews.

Metal braces consist of three main components. The brackets are affixed to each tooth, the arch wires connect the brackets together, and the elastics help hold the arch wires in to place on the brackets. Together, these three components work together to exert pressure on the teeth in a precise pattern to help gradually move the teeth in to the desired position. At each appointment, an incremental adjustment is made to the arch wire and elastics to help continue the progress of the teeth until the treatment is completed. Most patients have braces for about 12 months, but this varies depending on the individual needs of each patient.

Metal braces are the most common and popular style of orthodontic appliance. This means that most patients will already be somewhat familiar with what the process will involve, since chances are very high that a close friend or relative has also had braces recently. This familiarity helps to reduce apprehension for many patients, and makes their introduction to braces more comfortable. Metal braces are effective, simple, and easy to maintain. Most patients easily adapt to their braces in just a few days.

While most of the usual oral care habits will remain unchanged, patients will need to incorporate a few new methods to help keep their braces clean and hygienic in order to achieve the best results. This includes learning how to adjust brushing technique to get in to the additional nooks and crannies of the braces, and behind the arch wires. Special flossing tools can help make this easier and more comfortable. Some patients also may need to adjust their diet to avoid excessively hard or sticky foods that could potentially damage their braces.

Metal braces are often the most affordable option for orthodontics, and are the type that are most commonly included as part of many benefit plans and dental insurance policies. In general, metal braces start around $2500 and go up from there, depending on the length of the treatment and any special considerations that may need to be made based on each individual patient. For an accurate estimate on the cost of your braces, contact Georgian Dental® to arrange for an appointment to discuss what you will need in more detail.
